Are you bored with classes that you don’t find useful? Take control of your learning!
Have you ever felt that your teacher’s favourite topics aren’t helpful? Or that your textbook is full of teenage scenarios when you need business English?
The problem
- Often teachers talk about subjects they like, but that students don’t find useful.
- Many English textbooks are aimed at teens, and their exercises might not fit businesspeople.
- Some students never explain what they want, so often tutors don’t know there’s something wrong!
The solution
- Remember you are there to learn what you need. Make a list of real-life situations—presentations, emails, meetings, travel, social events…
- Focus on the vocabulary. Research the expressions you’ll need.
- Practise real-life situations in class. Insist until the key phrases become automatic!
- If your teacher keeps on talking about the subjects they like, or ignore your requests, change academy or teacher.
